What is domain name and their types?

A domain name is a unique name that is used to identify a website on the internet. It is typically made up of a series of letters and numbers that are separated by dots, and it is used to locate a specific website or web page within the internet. For example, the domain name for Google is “google.com,” and the domain name for Wikipedia is “wikipedia.org.” Domain names are used to identify and locate websites in the same way that street addresses are used to identify and locate physical buildings.
There are several types of domain names:
- Top-level domains (TLDs): These are the highest level of domain names and include well-known extensions such as .com, .net, and .org.
- Country code top-level domains (ccTLDs): These are TLDs that are specific to a country or territory, such as .co.uk for the United Kingdom or .jp for Japan.
- Generic top-level domains (gTLDs): These are TLDs that are not specific to a particular country or territory and include extensions such as .info, .biz, and .name.
- Second-level domains: These are domains that are one level below the TLD and are usually associated with a specific organization or business. For example, “google” is the second-level domain in “google.com.”
- Subdomains: These are domains that are further divided within a website or network. They are usually used to organize content or to create separate areas within a website. For example, “support” is a subdomain in “support.google.com.”
